Skin cancer reconstruction
Skin cancer of the face, neck, ears or scalp may be removed by a Mohs surgeon or Head and Neck surgeon. Cancer removal may leave skin, soft tissue, bone, and/or cartilage missing. These wounds are often in an aesthetically sensitive area. The wound may involve a structure that is crucial for normal facial function, such as the nose or mouth, or an area that is at high risk of poor healing or scarring, such as the eyelid. Reconstruction after skin cancer removal requires careful attention to both cosmetic and functional needs and long-term consequences of the chosen reconstructive method. Dr. Longino is experienced in facial skin cancer reconstruction — whether you require a simple closure or skin graft, local flap, forehead or cheek flap, or more complex reconstruction, she will ensure you achieve an optimal functional and aesthetic result.
Dr. Longino will ensure you are seen immediately after the cancer is removed to formulate a reconstructive plan. She is able to coordinate with your Mohs surgeon and schedule reconstruction the same day or the day after Mohs surgery.
