Eyelid & brow lift surgery
Brow lift
A brow lift, or “brow reset”, is a subtle yet powerful way to rejuvenate the eye area and add to overall facial harmony and youth. It may be combined with other procedures, including face and neck lift, blepharoplasty, fat transfer or even rhinoplasty. The goal of a brow lift is to restore a youthful, feminine brow shape and slightly elevated position, without looking “surprised” or unnatural. When combined with an upper blepharoplasty, a brow lift usually reduces the amount of skin that must be removed from the upper eyelids. Dr. Longino chooses the brow lift technique that best fits each patient’s unique anatomy and goals - most commonly, the endoscopic brow lift or temporal brow lift.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
In an endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Longino makes small incisions hidden in the hairline and uses a camera and special endoscopic instruments to lift the brow. With this technique both the central and lateral brow can be elevated, an in some cases the small muscles between the eyebrows are divided.
Temporal Brow Lift
In a temporal brow lift, incisions are only made in the temple region, within the hairline above the ears. This procedure is often chosen for patients who require mostly lateral brow elevation. It is frequently desired by younger patients and combined with blepharoplasty.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid lift)
Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures in facial plastic surgery. It is sought by patients of a wide age range. In severe cases, upper blepharoplasty may even be performed to relieve visual field obstruction, where heavy upper eyelids impair the ability to see. It may be performed in the operating room with anesthesia, or in clinic with local numbing, depending on which procedures are performed. Blepharoplasty is often combined with a brow lift and/or fat transfer.
Upper Blepharoplasty
In upper blepharoplasty surgery, excess skin - and, if necessary, pooching fat - is removed from the upper eyelids. Incisions are carefully hidden in the upper eyelid crease and closed meticulously with small stitches.
Upper blepharoplasty may be performed in the clinic with local numbing medicine, or in the operating room depending on procedures performed and patient preference.
Lower Blepharoplasty
There are several different techniques for lower blepharoplasty surgery, and Dr. Longino will choose the technique that is best for each patient’s anatomy and goals. In lower blepharoplasty, pooching fat may be removed or repositioned to smooth out hollowing between the lower lid and cheek. In some cases, a small amount of lower eyelid skin may be removed or the lower eyelid may be tightened. Lower eyelid surgery is complex and nuanced, and Dr. Longino uses careful maneuvers to deliver optimal results while ensuring the safety of the eye and lid.
