What is a facial plastic surgeon? A facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon has super-specialized, advanced training in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures in the head and neck. Most commonly, a facial plastic surgeon has completed 4 years of medical school, 5 years of residency in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery, and 1 year of fellowship in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Board exams are taken for both Head & Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Unlike other aesthetic providers and surgeons, a fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon has completed this extensive surgical training entirely focused on the head and neck region, giving them unique expertise in its detailed anatomy and function.
